Discovering a new world

Our programmes

Our multi-disciplinary team of scientists, researchers, elephantologists, technologists, whisperers and soothers, all play a vital role within the organisation. Together, they network to map out new areas for exploration. Some of our research has made it into popular media in the form of films, series and even stories for children.

Role of language in elephant culture

Our discoveries have shown the elephant language affects moods, alters relationships, changes dynamics within the herd and aid in future planning

Structure of the Elephant language

Elephants use a wide variety of vocalisations, visual cues and low frequency communications. A combination of these, has been used to create our interpretation dictionary. Some questions: Do elephants use tenses? Do they have multiple verbs for similar actions?

Language learning methods

We are striving to understand how language and vocabulary for an elephant increases over time. Some of the questions that we are exploring- How do calves learn the language? What is the role of stories? Do elephants have jokes and puns?
