Frequently Asked
Questions

Why is Veganism a core value?
Elephants have a very powerful olfactory senses. Ascribing to a vegan diet removes possible residual traces of humans as carnivores and helps create better relationships with the elephants. As we unlock the language and sentience among other beings, it is difficult to imagine a world where we communicate with a species while consciously harming another.
Does HELLO prefer ACTEL or IEALT test?
Both the Aptitude and Culture Test for Elephant Language(ACTEL) and Indian Elephant Aptitude and Language Test (IEALT) are exceptional tests created by domain knowledge experts. However, for positions based in India, IEALT will be better suited as it takes into account particular words and linguistic construction specific to the Indian subcontinent.
How does HELLO envision reducing its water consumption and emissions generated by AI training models, and larger environmental impact?
We believe the future of human-elephant communication is powered by humans and it is not digital. We envision elephant intelligence as a stop gap measure to reconnect with lost senses and communications and relearn our vocabulary. We feel the human body is well equipped to pick up signals and process when combined with intermediate technological tools, such as seismic activity amplifying footwear.
How ethical is it to talk to elephants?
HELLO, is encouraging its partners to move towards consent building with the elephants before engaging with them. This is where the elephant communicators play an important role in our work. There have been instances where elephants have been distressed at the idea of a human speaking their language so the communication has been limited to when there is any possibility of conflicts or negative interactions between the elephants and humans.
What are the guard rails for ensuring that this technology does not fall into the wrong hands?
Every new technology comes with an immense responsibility to ensure that it is used within a certain framework and does not lead to adverse effects or misuse. Humans already occupy a large wavelength of frequencies and cause more unknown frequency disturbances in the habitats without realising its impact. For this scientists, researchers and non-profits globally have developed strong protocols of testing, evaluation and data handling methodologies. This was brokered via non-profits who are advocates for the rights of non-humans.
